What We're Sending in August

 

All items being sent by The Ships Project in the month of August are listed on this page.

Any items meeting our guidelines, but not listed here, are not currently being sent due to the changing needs of our Troops.  Please hold these items until they are needed.

Handmade Items:

• Cool ties, in Tan, Brown, Greenish-Gray, or Digital Camo for troops in ground units.
  • These are desperately needed for the troops on the ground.  Temperatures are 100 degrees and rising, and we have requests for literally thousands of cool-ties in these colors.
  • If packing cool-ties in bundles, please separate the cool-ties for ground troops from those for ships.

   

• Cool ties in brighter colors, for troops on board ships:
  • Brighter "fun" colors, both solids and prints
    • Military Prints are great
    • Avoid white, off-white, pastels, and "girly" colors or prints.
  • If packing cool-ties in bundles, please separate the cool-ties for ground troops from those for ships.

     

• Soft Hats and Slippers in Approved Colors*  (Please check the Item Guidelines for colors)
  •  These are for the wounded/injured so must be very soft.
    • Caron "Simply Soft" is a good yarn to use for these items. 
    • Unfortunately, Red Heart and similar yarns are not soft enough for this need. 
    • Please use a single strand of worsted weight yarn (or equivalent - i.e. two strands of sport weight) only.
  • Patriotic patterns/colors and team colors are preferred by the troops, but we will send any items made in Approved Colors.*
  • *No black, brown, gray, camo, or tan at this time.

   

• Hats and Slippers in all Approved Colors*
  • Please check the Item Guidelines for colors and styles
  • Please check the Approved Patterns for Slipper Patterns
  • Any worsted weight yarn in Approved Colors*
  • Please use a single strand of worsted weight yarn (or equivalent - i.e. two strands of sport weight) only.
  • Patriotic patterns/colors and team colors are preferred by the troops, but we will send any items made in Approved Colors.*
  • *No black, brown, gray, camo, or tan at this time.

   

"Extra" Items:

Please check expiration dates on all items

• Lip balm, preferably with any SPF factor
  • (higher is better, but we will send whatever we can)

   

• Individual drink mixes such as Crystal Light
  • Generics and other brands are fine.  Please make sure that they are the individual sizes - for a 16.9oz bottle. 
  • Please remove the tubes from the boxes, and put into a zip-top bag.

   

• Insect repellent wipes in individual packets.

 

• Beef or Turkey jerky, individually-wrapped
  • Avoid any jerky with Pork

   

• Coffee
  • Whole Bean or Ground
  • Flavored or Plain
  • Caffeinated or Decaffeinated
  • No Instant Coffee, "coffee bags" (similar to a tea bag) or coffee pods.

   

• Chewing Gum and Bubble Gum

 

• Toothbrushes

 

• Phone cards with in excess of 60 mins.
   

 

• Kids' character bandages
   

 

• Music CDs (contemporary seem to be preferred)

 

• Movie DVDs (contemporary; please avoid old TV shows and movies)

 

• DVDs of popular TV shows

 

• Books on CD

 

• Games for PS3 and X-Box 360
