|Ribbed Helmet Hat|
|Created and donated to The Ships Project by Susan L. Kraus.|
Materials: Caron Simply Soft or other soft
knitting worsted weight yarn, approximately 3 ounces (amount will depend
on brand and type of yarn used)
All stitches are worked in back loops only except as noted (*)
Row 1: (Right Side) Hdc in 3rd ch from the hook and in next 27 chains. Sc in last 6 sts, Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in first 6 sts, hdc in next 27 sts, *hdc through both loops of last st (this makes a firmer lower edge of hat) Ch 2, turn. Ch 2 does not count as a st.
Row 3: Hdc in first 28 sts, sc in last 6 sts, Ch 1, turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until 40 rows completed, ending with row 2 (wrong side). Ch 1, turn. Bring beginning edge up to last row, right side inside, and slip stitch through beginning chain stitches and the back loops of last rows. This will continue the ribbed effect on the right side of hat. After seam is slip stitched together, cut yarn leaving about an 18” end, pull end through last loop on hook to fasten off. With yarn needle, weave yarn in and out of stitches along top edge of hat. Pull firmly to close top opening and fasten off securely. Weave in ends.
