|Lisa's Knit Hat|
|The sample hat was knit on size 8 needles with TLC yarn, but any worsted weight yarn is fine.
Worsted weight yarn.
On the circular needle, cast on 80 stitches (more or fewer, as long as it's an even number, to get the right circumference), leaving a tail at least six inches long. Do NOT join!
Row One: Knit in the front and back of each stitch to double
Rows Three through Ten: Repeat row two. At the end of row ten, do not turn work. You will now be working around the hat.
Row Eleven: Knit two together around.
When body of hat is about eight inches long, place marker before next stitch and get ready to begin decrease rows. Divide the total number of stitches on the last row by eight. This will give you the width for each decrease "wedge". Switch to the dpns when you've decreased enough to make using the circular needle difficult.
First decrease row: Knit 8, k2tog, repeat around. (Use this number if you cast on 80 stitches... knit # will be different with more or fewer stitches. Using whatever number (x) you got when you divided the total number
Eighth decrease row: Knit 1, k2tog, repeat.
Next (and final) row: K2tog around. Do not bind off.
Cut thread leaving about twelve inch tail. Using a yarn needle, run the tail through remaining loops and remove needle. Run the tail through those eight loops again and weave in the tail on the inside of the hat. Use the beginning tail to sew up the seam at the brim and weave the ends into the middle of the hat.
